On 12 December 2020, Lei Yang successfully defended her PhD thesis at Erasmus University. I am proud she succeeded within the four year’s time frame. Her research is about health communication. She studied to what extent health information in China is targeted at the Hui, a large Chinese Muslim minority. The research was co-supervised by Dr Yuping Mao (Los Angeles). Two research papers were published based on a survey and focus groups in Shenyang City. Two other papers about health programs on TV and about WeChat are currently under submission. The ceremony was special because Lei’s parents joined. The young doctor was very happy with her presents.
