On Friday 14 December 2018, I joined the national demonstration of WO in actie in The Hague. Next door to the Ministry of Education. The thousands of us protested against the repeated cuts in the universities’ budget. Higher education is not a priority for this government. Many jobs of my younger colleagues are under threat. Many university departments increase the number of students per class. This results in even more mass-scale education. I am proud my Erasmus School for History, Culture and Communication succeeds in offering small-scale, intensive and engaging education in our BA and MA programs. But it’s a continuous battle to safeguard that didactic approach, and we need more money to continue doing so.
