This academic year I face a major professional challenge. I have been appointed as the Director of Education in the Erasmus School for History, Culture and Communication. My directorate covers the BA and MA programs in history, arts & culture studies and media & communication. A first asset of this position is that it allows me to translate the insights I gained ‘in the field’ to the managerial level. This applies particularly to innovations in teaching. Developing our MOOC, for example, resulted in a lot of know-how that is transferable to other kinds of online education. A second asset of the job is that developing the educational policy is teamwork, especially where it amounts to putting innovations into practice.
